The Problem

Every bulb you own was engineered to die.

In 1924, the world's largest lightbulb makers met in Geneva and agreed to cap bulb life at 1,000 hours. A century later, the cartel is gone — but the habit remains. Your home throws away 12 bulbs every year.

1924
The year the Phoebus cartel capped bulb life — the original planned obsolescence.
12/yr
The average US household's bulb burnout rate. Plastic, glass, mercury — all landfilled.
2.6B
Bulbs thrown away in the US every year. Enough to circle the Earth six times.
The Object

A hand-blown glass shell.
A soul that swaps out.

Brass base
Four parts. Each replaceable.
How it works

Three parts. One forever.

The glass shell and brass base last a lifetime. When the filament finally tires after 100,000 hours, you twist it out and twist in a new one — like changing a film cartridge.

01 Twist

Twist the cap.

Cool the bulb. A quarter turn releases the magnetic glass cap from the brass collar. No tools, no shards.

02 Swap

Pull the filament.

The filament module slides out by its silicone tab. Drop in a fresh module — it indexes itself onto the contacts.

03 Live

Re-cap. Light up.

Magnets click the cap home with a satisfying thud. The same bulb glows on — for another 11 years of nightly use.

Try it

Watch a filament
swap, live.

No tools. No technicians. Click the button and see the worn filament eject and a fresh module index into place.

  • Filament module ships in a paper sleeve — no plastic.
  • Backwards compatible: every future module fits every EverBulb ever made.
  • Return the old module — we refurbish the LEDs into our community line.

Why it lasts

Built to outlive
its owner.

Most LEDs die because cheap drivers cook. We overbuilt ours. Then we made it replaceable anyway.

100,000 hours

11 years of nightly use. 28 years at the average household rate. Then swap the filament for another 11.

6.5 watts

Equivalent brightness to a 60W incandescent at one-ninth the draw. Saves ~$240 of grid power over its life.

CRI 97+

Renders red wine, skin and oak the way the sun would. The same color quality museums use to light Caravaggios.

Dim to candlelight

Smooth 1–100% TRIAC dimming with no flicker, no buzz, and a true warm-shift down to 1800K at the bottom.

Mercury-free, plastic-free

Hand-blown borosilicate. Forged brass collar. Cellulose insulation. No PFAS, no styrene, no fast-fashion polymers.

Lifetime warranty

If the shell, base or driver ever fails on you, we replace it. The filament module carries a 10-year guarantee.

"I have eleven EverBulbs in my home. Two years in, none of them have flickered. The light is genuinely beautiful — somewhere between dusk and a fireplace."

"We replaced 38 pendants in the dining room with EverBulbs. Two filament swaps a year across the whole place. Our staff used to spend hours on bulbs every month."

"My kids will inherit these bulbs. That sounds dramatic until you remember every other bulb in this house was destined for a bin within the year. EverBulb makes me feel less guilty."

Frequent questions

Asked & answered.

Does the filament really last 100,000 hours? +

Yes — and we have the L70 lifespan test data to prove it. Even better: when the LEDs finally degrade past 70% output (around the 100,000 hour mark), you swap the filament module instead of the whole bulb. The shell and base are good for several lifetimes.

What happens when I need a replacement filament? +

Visit the EverBulb shop and order a fresh filament module. We commit to manufacturing modules for at least 50 years from launch — every future module is compatible with every EverBulb ever made.

Will it fit my existing fixtures? +

Yes — the EverBulb uses the standard E26 (US/Canada) or E27 (rest of world) screw base. Specify which when you check out. We're prototyping B22 bayonet and GU10 versions for late 2026.

Is it dimmable with my existing switches? +

It works with most reverse-phase (trailing-edge) TRIAC dimmers — Lutron Caseta, Leviton, Legrand and most modern wall switches. We publish a tested-compatible list in the documentation.

When will I get mine? +

Early-bird reservations ship in August 2026, six months ahead of the public Kickstarter delivery. Super Backer tier ships first, hand-numbered, in July.

What if it breaks? +

If the shell, base, or driver fails, we replace the failed component for free — for life. The filament module is covered for 10 years. If we ever shut down, we've open-sourced the filament module's pinout so independent suppliers can keep making them.
